Boca Raton Snook Fishing Charters: Live Chumming With Captain Chris Agardy
Captain Chris and a happy client with a 28″ snook caught on a live bait around noon.

Boca Raton Snook Fishing Report: Now that we have reached the middle of Summer the snook are everywhere and they are eager to bite! Although snook season is closed until September, we have been focusing most of our attention on snook during inshore charters. The tarpon bite has been phenomenal as well, but snook fishing has been more consistent over the past few trips. The easiest way to catch snook around Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Boynton Beach right now is to castnet hundreds of pilchards to use as bait and live chum. Live chumming for snook involves throwing out handfuls of these live pilchards into the water when we know that we are in a good area holding fish. Even when the bite is slow, snook can often be “tricked” into being hungry once they realize we are giving them free live baits. Once the snook start popping around the boat, then we put hooks in a couple baits and cast out the rods. It usually doesnt take long for a snook to eat one of the baits, and the snook that we are catching this time of year tend to be on the large side. We are focusing most of our snook fishing in Boca Raton around the beaches, inlets, and canals where bait is present.

Basically, anywhere you can find concentrations of bait right now you will also find snook around. We are using light fluorocarbon leaders of 30-50lb test depending the size of the baits and the snook that we are targeting. Circle hooks are the best bet for us during the catch and release fishery that we are experiencing right now. If you are looking to book one of our Boca Raton snook fishing charters, you can give me a call today, as I have plenty of availability for trips right now. Tight Lines,
