02/16/16 Fishing Report: Wahoo Bite Goes Off!

Photo Feb 16, 9 04 00 PMPhoto Feb 16, 9 02 47 AMThis morning we had an offshore fishing charter on the 42′ Hatteras with a 2 anglers from Buffalo, NY. After waiting for an intense pre-frontal storm to pass, we left the dock at 8:00 am and we had our lines in the water trolling in blue water by 8:15 am. Within 5 minutes of trolling we were hooked up to a triple header hookup of wahoo about 1 mile outside Boynton Beach Inlet. Each of the fish quickly took out about 100 yards of line, and unfortunately two of the fish came unhooked. We did keep one on the line, however, and within ten minutes our angler had a 21lb wahoo boatside and we gaffed him and put him in the box. We reset our lines and made a circle back to the same area and immediately hooked up to another wahoo on one of our weighted lines. The wahoo stayed hooked and within 5 minutes we had a 33 lb wahoo boatside, gaffed, and in the box. Photo Feb 16, 8 41 31 AMOnce again we turned to circle back to the same spot and hooked up again on the deep rod, this time landing a 15 lb wahoo. We turned back and went through the same area a few more times, but as wahoo often do, they stopped biting by 9am. Our anglers were very happy catching 3 wahoo out of 5 hooked, but their arms were already tired from cranking on heavy conventional tackle so they wanted to switch gears to a little light tackle bottom fishing. We moved into the reef about 1/2 mile from shore and made about 20 drops, catching a variety of bottom fish including hogfish, porgies, pork fish, red grouper, sand eels, parrot fish, and file fish. We headed back to the dock around noon after a successful morning half day charter. I expect good wahoo fishing to continue during the next week as the full moon approaches. If you would like to book a fishing charter with us, then give me a call!

01/27/16 Fishing Report: Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, King Mackerel, Barracuda, And Bluefish

Boca Raton Fishing Report: Hi this is Captain Chris Agardy with the Boca Raton fishing report for January 27, 2016. The last couple weeks we have been doing mostly offshore charters. We have finally started to get some cold fronts in our area and the fishing has been getting better as the water temps are starting to drop. Before the cold fronts we have been catching wahoo and mahi. After the cold fronts we have been having our best luck with sailfish and mahi mahi. When the action is slow we have been catching monster barracudas on the local shipwrecks. Our most notable catch was on New Years Eve when we landed a rare white marlin only 4 miles from shore. The wahoo bite has been slow but there have been a few around. Here are some photos and video from some of our recent charters to start the New Year in 2016:

FishEnvy fishing charters take place aboard a sport fish boat that can bring up to 6 guests for half day trips. If you are looking for split trips please visit fish envy Fish Envy’s website here. Local Deep Sea Trips: Bolo Fishing Charters Offers $99 Half Day Split TripsSailfish Season Aboard Fish Envy Fishing Charters

Sailfish are present year round in the waters offshore of Boca Raton, but the Winter months are when they school up and migrate through our area in the greatest numbers. Starting in November, boats using kites with live bait can expect to hook double digit numbers of sailfish during cold snaps. Sailfish are catch and release only, but they are one of the most sought after gamefish in the Boca Raton area. Sailfish jump numerous times after they are hooked and they put on one of the greatest shows of any fish in the angling world.

Local Deep Sea Trips: Bolo Fishing Charters Offers $99 Half Day Split TripsCobia Season Aboard Fish Envy Fishing Charters

Cobia are most abundant during the Winter and Spring months, when they are migrating through the Boca Raton area. Early in the season, the most cobia are found traveling with Stingrays along the beach, feasting on crabs and small fish kicked up by the ray. The best way to target the cobia along the beaches is by sight fishing from a boat with a bridge or a tower. A higher vantage point will help to see the cobia swimming along the sandy bottom. Once a school of cobia has been found, it is common to hook up to multiple fish at the same time. It is very important to be prepared with multiple spinning rods to pitch baits to these cobias before they spook to deeper water.

Local Deep Sea Trips: Bolo Fishing Charters Offers $99 Half Day Split TripsKingfish Season Aboard Fish Envy Fishing Charters

Kingfish are one of the most common species encountered in the offshore waters of Boca Raton. Customers on deep sea fishing charters can expect to catch kingfish year round within a mile from the beach. During the Spring, the biggest kingfish of the year can be caught with live bait. Every trip during April and May could result in a kingfish exceeding 50 lbs. Trolling with baits deep in the water column will also account for plenty of bites from school-sized kingfish in the 5 to 15 lb range. Kingfish are good table fare, especially when smoked on a BBQ grill.

Local Deep Sea Trips: Bolo Fishing Charters Offers $99 Half Day Split TripsWahoo Season Aboard Fish Envy Fishing Charters

Wahoo is one of the most elusive offshore species in this part of the state, but they can be targeted as close as a mile offshore the beach. In fact, some of the biggest wahoo of the year follow schools of bonito into waters as shallow as 70ft during late Summer and Fall months. Wahoo average 15-30 lbs off Boca Raton, but occasionally anglers will hook into wahoo in the 40-70 lb class. The biggest wahoo will wreak havoc on light tackle, and the best chance to land these fish is by using 50 lb class reels loaded with at least 500 yards of line.

Local Deep Sea Trips: Bolo Fishing Charters Offers $99 Half Day Split TripsTuna Season Aboard Fish Envy Fishing Charters

The tuna fishing peaks around May/June, when anglers can expect to hook into blackfin between 20-30 lbs. These tuna will regularly take trolled baits, but live baits with light leaders will get the most bites.

If you are looking for a $130 Split fishing charter, the Fish Envy Fishing Charters are the way to go. If you are looking for more of a private fishing experience, give us a call today at 561-451-7646 to book a private charter for only $520  to 6people for a half day.

Captain Chris agardy and his wife Virginia showing off a nice catch of wahoo…

It is no secret that the stretch of offshore waters from Boca Raton to Boynton Beach holds some of the finest deep sea fishing available in the United States. Captain Chris Agardy was born and raised along this fertile stretch of coastline, fishing these waters since he was 4 years old. Chris has more secret spots and tricks for deep sea fishing in this area than any other local captain. There are dozens of charter boats currently operating in this area, but most of them are run by transplant captains that have no clue what they are doing. You can be rest assured that you are guaranteed to catch fish on one of Captain Chris’ deep sea fishing charters. Chris targets wahoo, kingfish, dolphin, sailfish, tuna, cobia, kingfish, and bonito (false albacore) during his Boca Raton deep sea fishing excursions.

Deep Sea Trolling Charters

Boca Raton Fishing Report: Mahi Mahi And Bonito Last Week During Charters
Our best day of fishing last week was during a morning charter on the big boat. We caught 14 mahi mahi only 3 miles from the dock!

Captain Chris’ most popular trip is a half day of deep sea trolling in the offshore waters from Boca Raton to Boynton Beach. During his trolling trips, he keeps the boat constantly moving with lines in the water and uses natural bait with lures to entice strikes from hungry wahoo, dolphin, kingfish, sailfish, tuna, and more. Trolling is the most effective way to catch the greatest quantity of fish during half day and full day offshore deep sea charters. During a typical half day trip, the boat covers over 20 miles looking for schooling fish. This gives a distinct advantage over drift fishing boats that only cover a couple miles during a trip. Trolling is the best method for catching wahoo, schoolie kingfish, and schoolie dolphin. It is also the best way to target tasty football-sized blackfin tuna.

Deep Sea Live Bait Fishing Charters

Best Wahoo Fishing Charter Captain In Florida- Capt. Chris Agardy
Here is Captain Chris with his biggest wahoo of the 2015 season, a 61 lb beast that ate a live bait fished under a kite.

Live bait fishing is another option for anglers fishing with Captain Chris. Live bait fishing involves drifting slowly with live baitfish hooked to the lines. This type of fishing is different from trolling because it attracts bigger fish as opposed to catching a greater quantity of smaller fish. Live bait fishing is the best way to target sailfish, big kingfish, big wahoo, big tuna, cobia, and big dolphin (mahi mahi). Live bait fishing requires lots of patience while waiting for a fish to bite, but the reward can be worth the wait with monster fish being caught. Live Bait costs an extra $80 to purchase during our deep sea fishing charters, but the extra cost can be worth it for anglers looking for a trophy catch.

Monster Shark And Goliath Grouper Fishing

Boca Raton Fishing Report: Snook Bite For Inshore Charters, Goliath Grouper, Wahoo, And Bonito OffshoreFor those anglers looking to catch monster fish during their Boca Raton deep sea fishing charter, we offer specialized trips to local shipwrecks in which we target monster bull sharks, lemon sharks, hammerhead sharks, and goliath grouper. All of these species average 150-600lbs, and are capable of putting even the most able-bodied anglers to the test. This type of deep sea fishing is catch and release only, but there will be plenty of photo opportunities available if you land one of these sea monsters. This type of fishing involves using heavy conventional tackle to wrestle these huge sharks and fish up to the surface. This is the ultimate challenge for Deep Sea Fishing in Boca Raton.

Bottom Fishing For Snapper

(07/14/14) Boca Raton Fishing Report: Kingfish And Snapper Fishing Heats Up With The WeatherWe also offer specialized Boca Raton deep sea fishing charters for yellowtail, mangrove, and mutton snapper. The most productive snapper fishing occurs at night, but we offer daytime trips for snapper as well. Snapper fishing in Boca Raton involves anchoring the boat near a reef and chumming up the snapper to the boat using chunks of fish. Snapper are very small compared to the fish that are caught while trolling or live bait fishing, but they are excellent eating quality. The average mutton snapper is around 5 lbs and mangrove and yellowtail snappers are 1-2 lbs. When the snapper are biting, we can catch up to 20 keeper snapper during a 4 hour had day deep sea fishing charter in Boca Raton.

Deep Dropping For Swordfish With Electric Reels

Boca Raton Swordfishing BoatWe have excellent daytime swordfishing that occurs 15 miles off the coastline of Boca Raton. We offer Deep Sea Swordfish Charters with electric reels for fishing heavy weights at depths up to 2,000 ft. This is a relatively new fishery for one of the most challenging sport fish that roams the sea- the broadbill swordfish. Swordfish Charters are 8 hour full day trips that include the opportunity to catch dolphin, tripletail, rosefish, and tilefish as well. This is a very popular trip for people looking to harvest lots of meat from swordfish that can exceed 500 lbs!

Best Wahoo Fishing Charter Captain In Florida- Capt. Chris Agardy

Best Wahoo Fishing Charter Captain In Florida- Capt. Chris Agardy
Here is Captain Chris with his biggest wahoo of the 2015 season, a 61 lb monster that ate a live bait fished under a kite.

Captain Chris Agardy is the king of wahoo fishing in South Florida. During his offshore charters, Chris’ primary target is wahoo. The key to his wahoo fishing charter success is the location of his charter business. Captain Chris fishes the dropoff only 2 miles from shore out of Boca Raton and Boynton Inlets. This is the only area in the entire US where the wahoo congregate in greatest numbers so close to shore. Captain Chris is able to successfully target these wahoo on a year-round basis in this area, consistently putting his customers on trophy “zebra fish”. His tactics include trolling with natural baits and kite fishing with live baits along the dropoff only a couple miles from shore. While fishing for wahoo during his offshore charters, Chris’ customers can expect to land quality by-catch such as sailfish, mahi mahi, tuna, kingfish, cobia, barracuda, amberjack, sharks, and more. This means that even when Chris doesn’t find a wahoo, his customers can expect to have plenty of action with other fish. If you are looking for the best wahoo fishing charter captain in Florida, then give Chris a call to book a trip: 561-451-7646.

Here are some recent photos of Captain Chris with some of his wahoo catches:

High Speed Wahoo Trolling Charters In Boca Raton With Captain Chris Agardy

High Speed Wahoo Trolling Charters In Boca Raton With Captain Chris Agardy

High Speed trolling for wahoo is one of the most exciting offshore fisheries along our Southeast Florida coastline. Our fertile offshore reef system is teeming with baitfish that attract hungry wahoo to feed within 2 miles of the beach. We target these wahoo by trolling with atificial lures and natural baits at speeds of 8 to 20 mph. When a wahoo eats one of our trolling baits, it usually makes a smoking fast run in the opposite direction for up to 200 yards. The bigger the wahoo, the bigger the initial run it makes. We use wire leader when we target wahoo because they have scissor-like jaws with hundreds of razor sharp teeth that can cut through regular monofilament fishing line like butter. Wahoo fishing charters in Boca Raton are not for everyone, mostly due to the fact that we might have to wait for hours in between bites. Even when the high speed trolling for wahoo is slow, we might catch other species like mahi mahi, sailfish, and tuna in the same areas where the ‘hoos are feeding.

South Florida Wahoo Charters
40 Lb wahoo caught while high speed trolling on New Years Eve 2014.

A typical 4 hour high speed trolling charter for wahoo includes three and a half hours of fishing and one half hour total of run time. The wahoo fishing grounds are very close to Boca Raton Inlet  and Boynton Inlet, so we start trolling for them within 15 minutes of leaving the dock. When we are trolling for wahoo, we use 50-80lb class conventional rods and reels with bent butts that are locked into the rod holders. These bent butts keep the rods at an angle closer to the water to keep trolling leads tracking under the water. When a wahoo bites, the angler reels in the fish by constantly cranking on the reel handle while the rod is in the holder. We keep the boat moving forward to keep a steady angle of the line to the hooked wahoo. When we get the trolling lead up to the boat, the first mate hand lines the rest of the leader until the wahoo is in gaff range. There is no better feeling than when the wahoo is gaffed and comes over the rail. This excitement is why we love running High Speed wahoo fishing charters in Boca Raton! The key to wahoo fishing on our half day trips is patience. Sailfish and Wahoo are Biting off Boca Raton!

 Boca Raton fishing charters
Here is a photo of a nice 30 lb wahoo caught last week with Capt. Chase aboard one of our Boca Raton fishing charters!

Offshore Fishing Report: The fishing has reached a transitional period for the offshore waters of Boca Raton. We are still catching many of the same species that we were seeing during the heart of the Summer months with a few of the fall species mixed in as well. The most action has come from kingfish and wahoo, but there are still some quality catches of mahi mahi coming in on a weekly basis for our  Boca Raton fishing charters. The majority of our fish have been taken while using live baits such as pilchards, spanish sardines, goggle eyes,a nd blue runners. We like to drift with our live baits when there is a bit of a breeze blowing…this allows us to cover more water while at the same time deploying fishing kites on the opposite side of the boat to keep a few of the live baits on the surface. On the side without the kites, or windward side of the boat, we like to stagger our live baits using different sized weights. The weighted baits tend to get more strikes from kingfish, wahoo, and amberjack, while the kite baits tend to get more bites with sailfish and mahi mahi. This is also a great time of year to catch a mutton snapper on one of our Boca Raton fishing charters. The mutton snappers make for excellent table fare, and they can be fooled by using dead sardines fished near the bottom in the same areas where we are catching kingfish farther up in the water column. Regardless of which species is biting on any given day, we are having no problem keeping the rods bent on our offshore fishing charters in Boca Raton this month!

Inshore Fishing: On the inshore front, we are seeing a transition occur. The schools of small pilchards and spanish sardines that have been present along Boca Raton beaches have started to thin out and we are starting to see schools of silver mullet move Southward in their place. This is an exciting time of year for fishermen aboard our inshore fishing charters because there are plenty of opportunities to hook into glamorous species such as tarpon and snook. The tarpon have been best during the early morning hours around piers and the mouths of the inlets near Boca Raton beaches. These tarpon will offer a challenge to fly fishing anglers, but live baiters will have it a bit easier throwing live pilchards at them. The snook are about finished spawning, which means that they will be on the hunt for baitfish in preparation for fattening up for the cooler months ahead. This is why it is such a great time to target these two species this time of year on our inshore Boca Raton fishing charters.

Swordfish Fishing Report: This is it guys…the best swordfishing of the year is upon us. Anglers venturing out of Boca Raton in search for broadbill swordfish are experiencing another great run of big fish this year. The best time to catch one on one of our  Boca Raton fishing charters is near the full moon, but these gladiators of the sea can be caught at any given time for those willing to venture 15 miles offshore. Daytime swordfishing has been most productive for the biggest specimens, but there has been plenty of action for the night time swordfishermen as well. Our Boca Raton Swordfishing charters cannot guarantee you fish, but they give you an excellent chance at catching that fish of a lifetime. Call me today to book your trip!

Fishing off Boca Raton is Red Hot Right Now!

Offshore Fishing Report:This past week we have been seeing lots of action while drifting with live baits along the deeper sides of the reefs off Boca Inlet and Highland Beach while on one of our Boca Raton fishing charters. Our most reliable species has been the bonito, but more glamorous species such as monster blackfin tuna and kingfish have been blasting our baits amidst the bonitos in 90-180 ft of water.

If there is an onshore breeze, the mahi mahi have been coming into the same depths as they follow schools of flying fish and sargassum weed lines closer to shore than usual while on one of our Boca Raton fishing charters.

Boca Raton Fishing Charters
This 29 lb wahoo ate a live pilchard in front of Boca inlet for one of our clients on Saturday!

A Summer weather pattern has set in, so it goes without saying that the mornings will most likely be hot and sticky with little to no wind drift. This will make kite fishing tough, but we have had good action while slow trolling on the days when the still conditions exist. Slow trolling our live baits allows us to cover miles of ocean at different depths and temperature breaks while on one of our Boca Raton fishing charters. We have had exceptional luck last week using live goggle eyes on the slow troll for monster king mackerel and even some decent wahoo. The wahoo seem to like the baits when they are moving, while the kingfish tend to bite when a bait stops after moving. We always keep our baits moving this time of year, trying as much as possible to make our baits grab the attention of wary game fish. The wahoo are usually found in the 150-600 ft depths this time of year, and sailfish are most likely to be encountered in these depths offshore of Boca Raton as well while on one of our Boca Raton fishing charters. This is the best time of year to fish with live bait on light tackle for offshore species, so give me a call to book your trip today!

Inshore Fishing Report: As the end of snook season approaches on May 31, we have been booking up very quickly with inshore anglers looking to score tasty snook fillets before they go off limits.

Boca Raton Fishing Charters
This 42″ monster snook was too big to keep, but that didnt stop Scott Tiernan from getting a real thrill out of catching her while on one of our Boca Raton fishing charters!

The snook have really come out of the woodwork in the last week or so and are already making a strong showing at Boca Raton and Boynton Inlets while on one of our Boca Raton fishing charters. The secret to finding these linesiders for us has been finding the schools of pilchards and glass minnows. Wherever the glass minnows and pilchards are holding, you can bet that there are snook around. There has also been a pod of small tarpon working the beaches of Boca Raton that have been feeding on threadfin herring and live silver mullet while on one of our Boca Raton fishing charters. This is the best time of year to catch snook and tarpon in the same day while fishing the Boca Raton area!

The Fishing Continues to Explode off Boca Raton!

Boca Raton Fishing Charters Wahoo Live Bait
This wahoo was taken on one of our Boca Raton fishing charters on Saturday. We hooked into the 40 lb + wahoo while looking for dolphin way offshore! It was the biggest full moon of the year, and we believe that this had something to do with this rare encounter with a large offshore wahoo.

Offshore Fishing Report and Forecast: This past week has seen it’s share of ups and downs for fishermen around Palm Beach County as our weather pattern continues to fluctuate before settling into a consistent Summer pattern. One thing is for sure, when the seas have been calm, the offshore fishing has been unbelievable at times! We are seeing lots of big king mackerel in the 30-50 lb range eating live baits and dead sardines while we drift along the outer edges of the reefs while on our Boca Raton fishing charters. These kingfish will continue to bite ravenously as our smoker king season peaks this month.

Boca Raton Fishing Charters
This is a still frame from the video of the wahoo from the pic above!

Blackfin tuna fishing is outstanding as well. Last Saturday we caught 4 blackfin tunas that weighed over 20 lbs each to win the Royal Palm Yacht Club tournament in Boca Raton! The secret to catching these monster blackfin tunas this time of year is to have feisty live baits. Our live bait supply is always being replenished for this reason! Kite fishing is an exciting way to fish live baits this time of the year for the big kingfish and blackfin tunas, but the occasional wahoo, mahi mahi, sailfish, or cobia are all prospective targets under the kites while on one of our Boca Raton fishing charters. Mutton snapper, mangrove snapper, yellowtail snapper, and  amberjack will be readily hitting our deep baits as we drift along the reefs of Boca Raton this time of year as well. The best part about fishing in May is the sheer combination of quality sportfish that you may encounter while on one of our Boca Raton fishing charters.

Inshore Fishing Report and Forecast: The inshore fishing is really starting to get good as boat traffic lessens with the end of the tourist season. This allows us to fish our favorite intracoastal fishing holes without being interrupted by extensive boat traffic while on one of our Boca Raton fishing charters.

Boca Raton Fishing Charters
Snook are the best bet this month while inshore fishing around Boca Raton.

Having said this, it is also a good idea to book an inshore trip with us during the weekdays, as the weekends will still be tough with the year round resident weekend warriors! Anyways, snook fishing tops the list for inshore waters right now. The warming waters trigger a massive migration of snook into the inlets during the month of May, and Boca Raton Inlet is known as one of the best spots to catch monster snook this time of year. The snook show up with the arrival of massive schools of pilchards, spanish sardines, and threadfin herring into Boca Inlet. We like to fish light spinning tackle for these snook, which can reach 40 lbs this time of year! Tarpon and Permit fishing will heat up along the beaches while on one of our Boca Raton fishing charters. We like to use crabs for bait for both species this time of year.
