I joined the “Controlled Slack” fishing team for the 2016 Pompano Beach Shootout. We won 1st place small boat division and 22nd overall out of 145 boats. We were able to weigh 63.9 lbs of tuna and kingfish. We made the run to fish my home waters near Boynton Inlet and the decision paid off with some decent Blackfin tuna fishing. We managed to land 3 out of 4 tunas hooked, all weighing 13 to 20 lbs. Around 2pm we went offshore and we found frigate birds with small dolphin under them. We landed a 7 pounder before heading back inshore for a big kingfish or cobia. We caught a small cobia, a 10 lb kingfish, and quite a few bonito before calling it a day. We also hooked into 6 sailfish during the tournament, even though they didn’t count towards the money it is good to see them out there. The peak of our offshore and inshore fishing season is upon us and I expect great fishing all around for upcoming charters. We are now offering charters on a tournament rigged 25′ Competition that was used during this tournament (pictured below). Call Captain Chris at 561-451-7646 to book a trip today!25′ Competition Center Console is now available for charter for $550 half day.Another big blackfin tuna landed less than a mile from shore.Cooler full of blackfin tuna, bonito, mahi mahi, and kingfish!

Spring break is in full swing and I have been fishing every day. Yesterday morning we had a great inshore trip, catching and releasing 11 snook and 2 jacks. In the afternoon we had an offshore charter and caught 3 Blackfin tuna and 4 bonito. In the evening we had a night inshore fishing charter and caught 1 snook, 7 sunshine bass, and 1 spinner shark. This morning I had an offshore charter and caught 1 wahoo, 1 tuna, and 2 bonito. The bite should continue to improve as warmer temps bring more fish into the area. Here are some pics from the last 2 days:
Check out these photos from last weekend’s offshore charters:
Call Captain Chris to book a trip: 561-451-7646 This 39″ wahoo was landed by an 11 year old during our afternoon charter on Sunday. We were trolling along a temperature break 3 miles offshore when the wahoo decided to eat one of our deep baits. We had 4 wahoo bites during the afternoon charter and we landed this one. The wahoo will be immortalized as a fish mount from Gray Taxidermy. You will also notice we caught a nice mutton snapper and 2 vermillion snapper while bottom fishing at the end of the half day charter. Obed from New Jersey landed this beautiful 27″ African Pompano during a morning half day charter on Sunday out of the little boat. This rare catch occurred while we were bottom fishing over a shipwreck with cut bait. The fish was legal size to harvest so it came home with us for the dinner table. Here are two nice Vermillion snapper caught during the morning charter on Sunday. They were caught using cut bait near the bottom. We caught and released this beautiful queen triggerfish during Sunday mornings half day charter on the small boat.
34″ snook caught on live baitYesterday I took out a couple clients from Buffalo on the small boat for some snook and tarpon fishing. The local spillway was still open from all the rain we have been getting, so that was our first stop around 8am. We had picked up a couple dozen live pilchards from Dynamite Live Bait before the trip, and we immediately started hooking snook near the spillway gates. The first couple snook were small, but they put up a good fight on light spinning tackle. At around 9am one of my clients hooked into a bigger fish that made several impressive runs and jumps before we had her boat side. We carefully slid her out of the water for a picture and measured her at 34″. It was the biggest snook of the year so far on my inshore charters! After catching a couple more small snook we decided to head to one of my tarpon holes around 10am. We marked plenty of tarpon on the depth finder, but they did not want to bite our live bait. At 11am we hit up my bluefish hole and hooked into some nice bluefish and jacks before calling it a day at 11:30am. Another fun intracoastal charter in he books! Call me to book a trip,
Yesterday the wind was blowing 15 to 20 mph out of the Southeast, making for very choppy conditions on the ocean. Despite 4 to 6 ft seas, my morning charter was amped up to do some offshore fishing. We started trolling around 7:30am and immediately landed a kingfish and a dolphin. The action remained fairly steady and we were able to land 3 more dolphin before heading in at 10:30am. We also hooked a sailfish, but he came unhooked after making a hundred yard run. Overall it was a successful half day charter with 4 dolphin and a kingfish making it to the fillet table.
My afternoon trip was an inshore fishing charter along the intracoastal waterway. We started the trip buying 2 dozen pilchards for live bait. We tried tarpon fishing at one of my favorite spots, but they were nowhere to be found and we moved after 20 minutes. We then made a 2 mile run to an area where the jacks and bluefish have been thick. We had a blast catching a few jacks up to 10 lbs and a couple bluefish up to 4 lbs on artificial lures. They were hitting plugs and spoons on the troll in 5 ft of water. After the jacks and bluefish stopped biting we made a 3 mile run back to the south to fish the Boynton spillway with live bait.
We ended up hooking 5 snook and landed 2 of them. They were not keepers, but still fun to catch on light spinning tackle. I have inshore and offshore charters lined up for the rest of the week, so stay tuned for more fishing reports for the Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Boynton Beach area

Here are the best SUP locations in Boca Raton to enjoy one of our rental boards:
Lake Boca
This massive sandbar hangout spot is located a few hundred yards West of Boca Raton inlet in the intracoastal waterway. During the weekends, the shallow sandbar is a very popular mooring area for boats, jet skis, kayaks, and Sup boarders looking for a true South Florida sandbar party experience. At low tide, the sandbar is about knee deep and it is possible to walk around. During high tide, a swift current makes wading difficult and it is recommended to stay on your craft or SUP board. Silver Palm Park offers easy SUP access to Lake Boca, but there is limited parking so try and get there before 10am. We offer free delivery and pickup for our Boca Raton SUP rentals to Silver Palm Park.
Spanish River Park
Spectacular SUP boarding opportunities abound at Spanish River Park. The park offers ocean beach access on the East side of the park and Intracoastal access on the West side of the park. SUP boarding is very popular on both sides of the park, and when the ocean is too rough, the Intracoastal waterway offers a nearby no wake zone near a lagoon at neighboring Lake Wyman Park. Spanish River Park offers free parking East of the Intracoastal bridge on Spanish River Blvd, but finding a parking spot is difficult after 8am. It is recommended to get there early insure a free parking spot along the side of the road. If you can’t find a free parking spot, there is pay parking available within the entrance to the park for a small fee. This is a popular destination for college kids from FAU, and SUP enthusiasts abound. We offer delivery and pickup of our Boca Raton SUP rentals to the Spanish River Park location
South Beach Park
South Beach Park offers beach access at the East end of Palmetto Park Road. Parking is difficult after 8am, but early birds are rewarded with free parking and easy SUP board access to the ocean. There is additional free parking to the West along Palmetto Park Road, but there is a bit of a walk if you park down the street. The beach here offers sandy bottom and beautiful blue water, especially around the high tide. This is a great launching point for a SUP boarding adventure, and boarders heading South can paddle to Boca Raton Beach Club Resort only 3/4 mile away. The resort is located at the Boca Raton Inlet rock jetty, which offers great snorkeling. We offer delivery and pickup for our Boca Raton SUP rentals to South Beach Park if this is the location you choose to go.
South Inlet Park
This park has all amenities you need for a fun day at the beach. This is an excellent beach for SUP boarders looking for waters protected from a hard Northeast wind. The long rock jetty is great for fishing and there are small patch reefs for snorkeling in an area guarded by county Lifeguards. This is a great spot to teach the kids how to SUP board. Parking requires a small fee, but the park is worth it if you are planning to entertain a family especially. We offer delivery and pickup for our Boca Raton SUP rentals to South Inlet Park if this is the location you choose to go.
Hillsboro El Rio Park
This is the preferred location for SUP boarders looking for a tranquil backcountry river experience in Boca Raton. The El Rio and Hillsboro canals intersect near a mangrove shoreline that is a perfect habitat for native birds, iguanas, and fish. There is limited boat traffic in this area, and the waters are very smooth along this inland Florida “river”. We offer delivery and pickup for our Boca Raton SUP rentals to Hillsboro El Rio Park if this is the location you choose to go.
Red Reef Park
Red Reef Park offers ocean beach and intracoastal access to a no-wake boating zone. The beach on the ocean side offers a beautiful reef located along the shoreline. This is the best place to snorkel in Boca Raton. This is also a great place to go fishing for barracuda and snook. The waters are pretty clear in this area, and you can paddle right over the reef at high tide when the ocean is calm. We offer delivery and pickup for our Boca Raton SUP rentals to Red Reef Park if this is the location you choose to go.
